Missing Perspectives’ TV Binge Club: What shows to watch in 2025

Welcome friends to the Missing Perspectives Binge Club, your one-stop shop for all of the best that TV has to offer you in the year of our lord 2025.

From teenage lesbian cannibals, to millennial-coded college coming of age series, this list has it all. So far, 2025 has been feeding us with a near-constant barrage of new releases that make me want to cancel my plans and bed rot the day away, and I could not be more grateful.

As I said in the sister article, the Missing Perspectives Movie Club, it can feel as if every “watch list” that many publications put can often be a regurgitation of the TV shows most likely to win awards – while boring the ever-loving shit out of you (oops!). This is not that list, as this monthly TV wrap-up will serve as a celebration of diverse stories that either move, amuse or grip us. If you want to diversify your viewing and have fun while doing it, this is the place for you.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Put on your pink turtlenecks, grab a smoothie and get ready to be scammed. Apple Cider Vinegar follows the story of a young Aussie woman who pretended to have cancer and defrauded her following and community. This series is such a nostalgia trip for Aussie viewers, from the Dance Academy cameos, to The Bold Type star Aisha Dee’s engaging portrayal of Chanelle – inspired by real-life Chanelle McAuliffe. This series is a great examination of the dangers of wellness culture, and the perfect show to put a nail in the coffin of the girlboss.

Yellowjackets

Where are my lesbians at? Yellowjackets is a series with a dual timeline, with one timeline that depicts a high school soccer team who crash land in the Canadian wilderness in 1996, and the second timeline following the adult survivors 25 years after the crash. This show has everything from cannibalism and homoerotic female best friends, to a deeply compelling mystery. With season three airing week-to-week from Valentine’s Day, you should really sink your teeth into this show, I promise it’s tasty.

Overcompensating

This show gives me all the millennial nostalgia! It feels like a love child of Pitch Perfect and GBF, and is the most enjoyable binge I have experienced in a long while. Created by beloved online comedian Benito Skinner, this show is sure to usher in a new generation of online talent transferring their skills to a more mainstream medium, and I for one am excited for it. Currently praying for a season two.

XO Kitty

In writer Jenny Han we trust! XO Kitty follows Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart), the little sister of Lara Jean from the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series, and her adventures in Korean boarding school. This show is groundbreaking for its queer representation in a K-drama, as well as being an exploration of Korean culture. If you wanna watch something that is wholesome and life-affirming, then please do yourself a favour and watch this!

School Spirits

School Spirits is the best-kept secret on television right now, but I will gatekeep this show no more! The show follows Maddie, a teenage girl stuck in the afterlife at her high school, who’s investigating the mystery of her own disappearance. The cast of this show has such phenomenal chemistry, the writing is snappy, the mystery is immensely engaging with every episode, and season two ends on a cliffhanger.

The White Lotus

I don’t need to sell you on The White Lotus, everyone and their mother has watched this show. Even people under a rock have heard rumblings of an incest plot line in the third season. I don’t need to tell you to watch it because I am sure you already have!

Severance

This show is so significant for its exploration of corporate culture and how it dehumanises employees. Severance is a top notch psychological thriller, with so much thought put into it (with my favourite detail being how it took them 50 shades of white to find the right colour for the hallway). If you aren’t already sold, know that iconic Aussie actress Dichen Lachman is an absolute star in the show. We love to see Aussies thriving!

The Residence

I am going to sell you on this series now.

Uzo Aduba as a whacky detective.

Kylie Minogue as herself.

A Shondaland production.

A fictional murder scandal involving the staff of the White House.

A tribute to Andre Braugher, as he was filming for this series when he passed away.

If you are not adding this to your watch list this very second, I have concerns for you – haha.

Surface

If you are after a psychological thriller that has a strong focus on character development, Surface is the show for you! The show centres around Sophie, a woman suffering memory loss from a supposed suicide attempt, and she tries to piece together her life while uncovering hidden truths and conflicting stories. With Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s enthralling performance as Sophie and season two having just started airing, this show should definitely be on your radar.

Running Point

If you read our Missing Perspectives Movie Club, then you know how excited I am for the Brenda Song renaissance we are currently living in. In Running Point, Kate Hudson is a reformed partier who gets left in charge of her family’s pro basketball team, and has to prove herself as a business woman. Hijinks ensue, Mindy Kaling’s magic touch can be felt, and Breaking Point is a thoroughly enjoyable series!

Invisible Boys

This excellent Aussie show explores the lives of a group of gay teens in a small town in Western Australia. One of them is outed on social media following an encounter with a married man, and from this a group of queer kids discover a found family in one another. Based on the 2019 book by Holden Sheppard, this is a great coming of age story. On top of that, the lead actor Joseph Zada is going to be Hawmitch in the Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, so you can watch him in all his glory in this show.

Hacks

Jean Smart.

That’s it, that is reason enough to watch this show.
