Missing Perspectives Wrapped (2023 Version)

And just like that…we’re wrapping up 2023. What a year huh? Team MP doubled, we went on our first overseas trip as a company, launched an app, flew to viral heights all thanks to an unsuspecting sports bar in Portland, Oregon, launched an epic new podcast project and welcomed an unprecedented number of new faces to our feed thanks to the glitter of Barbie and the roar of the Matildas.

And just like that… we’re wrapping up 2023. What a year huh? Team Missing Perspectives doubled, we went on our first overseas trip as a company, launched an app, flew to viral heights all thanks to an unsuspecting sports bar in Portland, Oregon, launched an epic new podcast project and welcomed an unprecedented number of new faces to our feed thanks to the glitter of Barbie and the roar of the Matildas.

This year was huge. SO many shifts of the dial. So many women flooding the news with their glorious achievements. Margot and Greta with the biggest Warner Bros film of all time. Sam, Mackenzie, Cortnee and all the rest with their history-making World Cup campaign. Taylor & Beyonce with their economy-stabilising global tours that captivated and drew in thousands not only inside stadiums but on grainy livestreams too and gave us all such powerful examples of what it means to accept and nourish your womanhood in all its glory. Coco, with her hater-defying win at the US Open. The list could be endless.

But we wouldn’t be doing our job or representing this year for women as it was if we only focused on the good stuff. Women everywhere are fighting to survive. Right now as you scroll. They are fighting to protect their autonomy, their education, their bodies, their safety and essentially everything that makes us human. We want to acknowledge that struggle, that fight and say we see you.

In Afghanistan, in Gaza, in Ukraine and everywhere, there is conflict, we see you. We hear you. We know that you are bearing the unseen brunt of this as women and we will continue to make sure you are never erased Across the world on the biggest battleground for reproductive rights, we see you. We rage with you. We abhor the idea that 2024 could mean less rights for us and those of the little girls we know than our grandmothers had.  This is not what they fought for. So we keep trying.

To the girls on the climate frontlines, trying to save a dying planet from the greed of men, we see you. We march with you. We demand more of our leaders with you. This is not the inheritance we agreed to. Back home, we salute all of the incredible First Nations women who gave us everything this year. We see you. We recognise you. We thank you for being so generous. To the survivors and the lost, whose hearts bear the mark of a national crisis, we see you. You deserved better. Your body belongs only to you. It was not your fault. The fault is only with the men and the systems who did this to you. Who set a terrifying example for the boys we know. The only way forward is together. Respectfully. Consensually.

It’s been our honour to share so many stories with you this year. We want to thank everyone brave enough to trust us. You are the reason change happens. There is so much work to be done and we are so proud to be doing it. For now, though we rest, recharge and reflect. See you back here fired up and ready to go in 2024.
